	The Acupuncture Experience The first question on many people's minds is, "does it hurt?" No, usually not. Everyone has a different experience of these fine needles that are as thin as a human hair. Most people notice a sensation like a mosquito bite, followed by tingling, numbness, distention or a funny feeling. Some needles are not felt at all. After the needles are in, many people relax and even fall asleep! By letting all the tension out of the body and relaxing the mind, the treatment is usually quite easy to accept. Refraining from smoking, caffeine, or other stimulants within an hour of your treatment will also make the treatment more comfortable. The healing takes place while the needles are in. This time will be around 30 to 40 minutes, however if you need to leave by a certain time, be sure to let Marty know. How does something so painless be so effective for so many health conditions? More research needs to be done to find the exact mode of action. For thousands of years, acupuncture works -- sometimes instantly, sometimes more slowly over a period of time.
